Caption: FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), is an independent, non-profit organisation which strives to promote the responsible management for the world’s forests.
FSC aims to address the mismanagement of forests and reverses the exploitation of workers, whilst upholding the biodiversity and ecological sustainability to ensure that the natural benefits of forests are maintained for future generations to enjoy.
When a company selling hardwood flooring has an FSC certificate for a particular type of flooring, it means that every business involved in the chain of production (forest owner, farmer, manufacturer and seller), share the FSC principles and ethics and have also been awarded FSC certificate.
Regular (yearly) checks are carried out to ensure that the values are met.
FSC is approved by prominent environmental charities, such as Greenpeace and WWF.
