Caption: Did you know that Boppard was once a Roman fort? There are many places in Boppard town where you can still see this, such as at the Römerkastell. Hidden away these truly ancient ruins reflect the long history of Boppard and the surrounding area. The Römerkastell has 55m of original 4th-century Roman wall, and graves from the Frankish era (7th century). A wall panel shows what the Roman town of Bodobrica looked like 1700 years ago.

Caption: In the eastern wall of the upper town near the Balz (a square in Boppard), you will find the Bingertor. Originally a gate tower about 40 meters high, controlling the route south out of the city. Heavily damaged in the Boppard War in 1497, only a few remains with the archway have survived to this day.

Caption: During the cold days, nothing beats warming up in a cozy hotspot. Café Zeitgeist definitely is one! It is located in the oldest half-timbered house in Boppard. It’s beautiful on the outside, but definitely also very cute on the inside. They serve hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and sweets.

Caption: Wandering through Boppard, we discovered the amazing restaurant Schnuggel-Elsje, fully decorated in Christmas style. The half-timbered house is one of the oldest in Boppard and it immediately caught our eye. Unfortunately, the Italian restaurant was closed when we were here. They’re supposed to have delicious pizzas and pastas, so we will definitely be back to try the Italian delights!
