Caption: Bonnytoun House stands in mature parkland with around 24 acres of land including paddocks and two walled gardens, along with an old stable courtyard. With views over Linlithgow Loch towards the historic Linlithgow Palace, Bonnytoun is one of those properties that feels very ‘away from it all’, yet it’s also in a prime commuter spot.

Caption: The B-listed Victorian house dates from around 1840 and was built for local distiller Adam Dawson, who became the Provost of Linlithgow. It’s thought that Bonnytoun was designed by the architect Thomas Hamilton, and this substantial house includes two reception rooms, five bedrooms and three bathrooms. The property, which is now on the market with Knight Frank, had been extensively refurbished and redesigned by its current owners.

Caption: This is such an impressive property - and with so many beautiful photos by Square Foot Media - I thought I'd share Bonnytoun House in two parts.
This story, part one, is all about circulation spaces, gorgeous period detailing, and knockout bathrooms.

Caption: As you head upstairs, there's a mezzanine level with a bedroom and an en-suite bathroom. White subway tiling is a theme that continues through the bathrooms, giving each space a contemporary edge.

Caption: I love how this streamlined piece offsets the period features here, including the working shutters and original fireplace.
Picture
Caption: There’s another striking bathroom on the first floor where the master bedroom has a large en-suite with a canopy bath – a period style that fits so well here, but again the other elements create a great mix. This traditional-meets-contemporary styling is always exciting to find in an old house.
