Caption: Bolivia truly amazing landscapes
Caption: One of the highest and most remote countries on earth, much of Bolivia remains untouched by the passage of time. Bolivia has more indigenous peoples than any other country in the Americas. For travelers, Bolivia offers a diverse mix of multi-ethnic cultural experiences, magnificent natural landscapes and extreme adventures.

Caption: The “rich mountain” or “Cerro Rico” that towers over the city of Potosí once held the silver that lured Spanish Conquistadors to the world’s highest city. Cerro Rico is the ideal travel destination for those who want to explore the affect that colonization had upon the indigenous people of Bolivia. Although the silver is long gone, tin is still mined from Cerro Rico.

Caption: Visiting the silver mine in Potosi is a deeply moving experience. With the miners working for just a few dollars a week this sadly still continues to this day, with poor health and safety and nightmarish working conditions. Silicosis of the lungs is a big killer and lots won’t live to see their 40th birthday.

Picture
Caption: The reserve is also home to some of the planet’s most unusual landscapes. Bright white salt flats and the rainbow-colored mineral lakes of Los Lipez are both much too harsh to support human life but are a refuge for many rare and endangered South American species.

Caption: An evocative and eerie sight, the Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat (12,106 sq km) sits at 3653m (11,984ft). One of the truly amazing sights of Bolivia, it is a surreal landscape - like something out of a sci-fi movie.

It’s an other-worldly experience that has to be seen to be believed.
Caption: One of the sights of Bolivia that should not be missed is Lake Titicaca, which sits on the borders of Bolivia and Peru.It is the highest lake in the world at 12,500 feet above sea level and is the largest lake in South America.
Archaeologists have uncovered an ancient temple and the site is further considered as the birthplace of the Inca civilization, in particular the Isla de Sol (Island of the sun).

Caption: It might seem odd including a city in the list of best landscapes in Bolivia but, La Paz more than deserves its mention.
As the world’s highest capital city, it looks spectacular from any angle – if you get the chance to see it from the air – do so!
