Caption: Algonquin wolf or Eastern wolf (canis Lycaon)
Also known as the Eastern timber wolf, Eastern Canadian Wolf, Eastern grey wolf is a medium size wolf found in Canada.
Caption: For years the Red Wolf (c. Rufus) has been a debate on interbreeding with coyotes and on the Eastern Wolf and after a recent study, genetic data indicated that the Eastern Wolf and the red wolf were not a subspecies of the gray wolf (Canis lupus) but is a North American wolf more similar to the red wolf (c. Rufus) and closely related to the coyote. The Eastern Wolf has been proposed as a separate species (c. Lycaon). Both the red wolf and Eastern wolf evolved in North America sharing a common lineage with the coyote until 150,000-300,000 years ago.
