Caption: This past weekend I visited Alcatraz for the first time to see @Large, an exhibition of work by Ai Weiwei, a Chinese artist and political activist.
Unable to leave his own country, Ai developed the entire exhibition from his studio in Beijing and remotely directed the installation of his art throughout three of the buildings on the island.
The powerful message of Ai's work presented among the historical ruins of Alcatraz made this an overwhelmingly epic experience.
