Waterton Lakes National Park of Canada
Caption: Waterton Lakes is not only one of my favourite parks but also the first Canadian National Park I visited back in Autumn 2016. The snow hadn't reached the mountains yet, and the fall colour palette was at its peak.
The town of Waterton was filled with orange trees opposing from the deep blue lake. We hiked the Bear's Hump from where I captured a panorama of Waterton.
That photograph reached its final stage as a 24x36 print framed above our bed, a bright and colourful reminder of a ten days road trip from Ontario to British Columbia in September 2016.

Caption: A year later, the Kenow wildfire reached Waterton. It moved towards Cameron Valley and the famous Akamina Parkway and burned everything from the forest to infrastructures.
I remember seeing this in the news, and at the time, we felt uncertainties about the future of Waterton

Caption: We arrived at the mid plateau and were now fully exposed to the wind, and it was tough to stand up without immediately being push to the ground.

Caption: The lake was agitated and moving toward the mountainside of Glacier National Park in the state of Montana.
A sea of dark blue clouds was painting the sky and, Looking north, we noticed the burned-over mountain we just hiked.
The scattered snow patches were a massive contrast against the black mountain, covered with charred tree logs. They looked like darken metal spears rusted by time.

Caption: Between the noise of our boots crushing the snow, we noticed rustling down the trail. We stopped few meters away from a young buck deer grazing on one of the numerous charred stumps.
The path was narrow, and we couldn't pass the dear without disturbing it. We waited for him to make the first move...

Caption: Although deers are abundant in the vicinity of Waterton, it warmed my heart to see that after all that chaos of flames, wildlife adapts in this burned landscape.

Caption: I read many articles about the Kenow wildfire and what the future holds for this place. Wildfires are an essential part of forest lands and are beneficial for the renewal of woodlands.
Unfortunately, the Kenow fire was more devastating than anything else due to extreme heat and dry country. The Waterton websites have many links about this, and I encourage visitors and lovers of this park to read them through and learn what can be done.
