Tantallon Castle in Scotland is a spectacular ruined medieval fortress on a cliff overlooking the sea and Bass Rock. Built in the 14th century by the Douglas family it was attacked and besieged several times during its history. It was badly damaged during the siege by Oliver Cromwell’s army in 1651 and was never fully rebuilt.
