This was one of the most unusual historic properties we’ve ever visited and has a really unique story. Essentially, beginning in 1787, it was built in three stages as a seaside retreat for George, Prince of Wales, who became King George IV in 1820. George was a vain and extravagant man with a passion for fashion, the arts, architecture and good living. It is built in the Indo-Saracenic style prevalent in India for most of the 19th century. Queen Victoria also stayed here and was not a fan, though. I sort of loved the over-the-top decor. The chandelier over the table in the dining room weighs 1 ton!! 👑🌴
