A short, but steep, hike with a mesmerizing payoff right off the Blue Ridge Parkway! What’s super awesome about this one is that the views on the way up are just as beautiful as they are at the top! It’s a stunning one, through and through. Even more, Waterrock Knob has the highest elevation on the Parkway and is a must for those traveling it. If you’re unable to do this hike, you can still soak in the awesome views from the parking lot and visitor center. The visitor center is located at 5,820 feet elevation and the summit reaches 6,273 feet! Fog and clouds are common here, so it makes for a perfect photo-op (especially at sunrise or sunset). Trail details: This is a 1.0 mile, out and back, trail that is rated “moderate” on AllTrails. Bring a jacket along on this hike because temperatures are typically much cooler up here. Even though it’s short, there’s about 500 ft. of elevation gain within 0.5 mile so be prepared to go straight up to reach the top! This trail is only about 6 miles (12 minutes) from Soco Falls (another gem). The trailhead is located right at the parking lot for the Waterrock Knob Visitor Center.
