Perhaps the most thrilling, crazy-awesome hike I’ve ever done in North Carolina (or the entire eastern US, even)! With INCREDIBLE views on top of all the fun! More info on this hike ⤵️ 📍Grandfather Trail (to Calloway Peak) in Grandfather Mountain State Park, NC 🚗 Parking for hikers is in the lower parking lot below the parking for Mile High Bridge & Visitor’s Center. Then, it’s a 0.5 mile hike up to the trailhead which is across the parking lot from visitor’s center. 🥾 We clocked our distance at ~7 miles (accounting for some side-off trails like MacCrae Peak, Shanty Spring, Indian House Cave etc). I highly recommend going up to MacCrae Peak -Best views! ⛰ This trail is rated difficult / strenuous with elevation gain of over 2,000ft and many ladders and cables. Rock scrambling is required in areas such as Attic Window as well. 💰 Cost of admission is $24 per person and you should snag a permit online beforehand (https://grandfather.com/tickets/) ⏰ Definitely try to reserve the earliest time slot you can (ours was 8am, the first time available). Thus, we were the first people on the trail and didn’t have to wait as others traversed the ladders & cables. ✨ All in all, I couldn’t have enjoyed this hike more! I absolutely loved the added challenge of all the obstacles!! Not to mention: the VIEWS are insane as you hike along the ridge. Absolutely beautiful! And crazy (in all the best ways)!! 🥰🙌🏻🙌🏻
