Fern Canyon in Redwood National and State Parks will have you feeling like youโve stepped foot into a Jurassic World (for good reason, too)! See why below ๐๐ป ๐ฅพ ๐๐ข๐ค๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐จ: โขThe trail is a short 1.1 mile loop! โขThereโs a parking lot at the trailhead (and also a beach & picnic area!) โขA day use permit is required in the summer months (May 1 - September 30). You can apply for one online at: https://www.redwoodparksconservancy.org/permits/fern-canyon-permits โฆ or, you can go during off season like I did! โขBe prepared to get wet! The trail through Fern Canyon follows a creek bed. Wear waterproof boots and/or hiking + water sandals! ๐ฅ๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฅ๐: ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ค (๐) ๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐ก๐๐ซ๐! I know for sure that the one scene where the bad guy gets chased and eaten by the little compy dinosaurs was shot in Fern Canyon! Others seem to think the scene with Sarah Harding and the stegosaurusโ was filmed here as well, but I canโt find any confirmation on that one! ๐ฆ ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ซ ๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฌ๐๐ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ (๐๐๐๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐๐ฅ๐ค)! Weโve seen elk here during our first visit and thereโs signs posted all over about elk in the area! Weโve also seen bear tracks near the parking lot picnic area before. Be careful, respectful and stay a safe distance away if you encounter any wildlife at all. ๐ป The road to the trailhead isnโt the best but itโs also not the worst! Keep tabs on rainfall because there is a section where you have to cross a very shallow/small creek. If heavy rainfall has occurred recently, this may become impassible for low-clearance & 2WD. โ ๏ธ Always practice ALL of the Leave No Trace Principles when adventuring outdoors!
