Unfortunately, Cu Rua, the centuries-old turtle of the Returned Sword Lake, died in January 2016, taking with her one of the legends of Old Hanoi. However, even though this enormous 170-kilogram creature no longer haunts the murky waters, the lake has lost none of its magic and remains one of the major attractions of the old city. Certainly, there is nothing else to do there than to stroll around, but it is one of the most pleasant walks in the neighborhood and the best way to meet Vietnamese people. Hoan Kiem Lake is a real hub of activity; people practice evening Tai Chi from morning till night, come to drink coffee (while eating sunflower seeds), go jogging, and it is the preferred spot for lovers who sit by the water's edge, share their phone earphones, hold hands without daring to look at each other.
