The striking figure of Minas Gerais is represented by the sculpture of Juquinha from Serra do Cipó, located at the place where the legendary character lived. This artwork is a spontaneous and iconic tribute conceived by the late Dr. Sebastião, mayor of Conceição do Mato Dentro at the time, together with Clério Lima, mayor of Morro do Pilar. Juquinha, in reality, was José Patrício, a simple, amiable, and cordial man, like every good ‘mineiro’ (someone from Minas Gerais). He used to wander through the paths of Serra do Cipó, distributing flowers and kindness, becoming the guardian of the region when it was not yet such a well-known tourist destination.
