The historical and cultural heritage in Ouro Preto has been preserved and the city is full of impressive Baroque-style buildings, richly decorated with gold and carvings. You will definitely see this in the Basílica Menor Nossa Senhora do Pilar. Considered one of the richest churches in Minas Gerais, it has gold leaf painting inside. Today, it brings artistic and architectural elements from the Portuguese national baroque and Johannine, Rococo, neoclassical and eclectic. The building also holds an important intangible heritage, which are the festivals, ceremonies and religious celebrations brought by the Portuguese, and kept almost intact.
