Located on the slopes of Serra do Curral, Parque das Mangabeiras is the largest environmental reserve in the capital of Minas Gerais and one of the largest urban parks in Latin America. It’s a place for rest, leisure and sports. Mangabeiras Municipal Park was designed by landscaper Roberto Burle Marx. In its area of 2.8 million square meters of native vegetation, there are 21 springs of the Córrego da Serra, which is part of the São Francisco River basin. We mostly enjoyed spotting the animals in the park. The fauna includes 28 species of mammals, 160 species of birds, 20 species of reptiles and 19 species of amphibians. The park has native forests, where you can take trails among monkeys, squirrels and other wild animals.
