Porto de Galinhas (chicken harbour) is a beautiful village that belongs to the city of Ipojuca, state of Pernambuco. During the darkest times for humanity, the village was entry point for ships carrying African slaves brought to work in sugar cane plantation. After slavery was abolished, illegal ships still tried to bring slaves, deceptively calling them as "chicken". Nowadays slavery in the region is thankfully something from the past, and the Pernambucan’s Frevo tradition can be spotted at the colourful umbrellas that embezzle the streets of the village.
