The best (and most fun!) way to get to the popular Pelourinho district is by using the Elevador Lacerda. The Lacerda Elevator is a public urban elevator in Salvador, connecting the lower city to the upper city. The 72 meter high elevator was built between 1869 and 1873. To take the lift, you only have to pay 0,15 Brazilian Real, which is around 0,03 American Dollars. Very much worth the pennies when you consider the view from above!
