When travelling to Salvador, you definitely have to visit the colourful neighborhood Pelourinho. This historical district is UNESCO Heritage thanks to the picturesque cobble streets, colourful buildings and colonial landmarks. You will also notice all the ‘fita of Our Lord of Bonfim’. These colourful ribbons symbolise faith and connection to people’s kindest wishes. But also stop to notice the statues and monuments that make up the scene. Many help to eternalize the history and struggles of the black population of Bahia, since, after centuries of colonization and slavery, these monuments help to preserve and enhance their culture, like the Memorial das Baianas.
