Sitting in my hotel room late at night and suddenly my window glows bright neon colours. Joyful music and dance fill the air. I peak outside and I see the streets filled with people celebrating, setting off firecrackers and fireworks right in the middle of the street. I open the window and I feel the heat from the fireworks as they whiz past my window and light up the sky. What an incredibly thrilling and unsuspected experience. I stayed up all night witnessing - up close and in the thick of it - the neighbourhood come together to celebrate Diwali. Diwali: one of the biggest Hindu festivals, celebrating light and hope and new beginnings.
