At the heart of Morro Bay, is the bustling waterfront along the Embarcadero. This area offers plenty of marine life viewing opportunities including otters, sea lions, harbor seals, great blue herons, and egrets. There are a handful of options to get out on the water from whale watching and tiki tours, to kayak or electric boat rentals. Visit the Maritime Museum to view various boat exhibits and learn a little about local history, including the S.S. Montebello oil tanker that was sunk by a Japanese torpedo during WWII just off the coast north of Morro Bay. Pop in to one of the candy shops to sample a wide variety of saltwater taffy. Play a game of chess on the giant chessboard located in the Centennial Parkway. And of course, enjoy the freshest seafood available at one of the many restaurants that dot the Embarcadero.
