Video of Postenturm
Caption: The Postenturm is a highlight you must see in Bacharach. Today the Postenturm is a walk-in observation tower. Originally it was a former defence tower in the northern wall of the Bacharach town fortifications. The way to the Postenturm is really worth it. From here you have a unique panoramic view of Bacharach. The post tower is one of the loveliest vantage points of Bacharach. The ‘Posten’ is a well-known Bacharach vineyard. We were here in winter and the view was limited by the fog, but we can imagine it’s fairylike in spring and summer.
Video of Kirch St. Peter in Bacharach
Caption: The beautiful medieval St. Peter Church was built in 1269 in late Romanesque style. It’s perfectly preserved and well-maintained. Its bright colors and decorations, as well as its Gothic arches, make it an unmissable stop when you’re in Bacharach. Have your camera ready, because there are so many perspectives to try!
Video of Ruine Wernerkapelle
Caption: Located behind the St. Peter Church, the Wernerkapelle is a more than 500 year-old gothic ruin. The ruin hides a dark past. A murder on Maundy Thursday in 1287 of the 16-year-old Werner was the reason for the construction of the chapel. The Wernerkapelle was built in honor of the unlucky kid and it soon became a pilgrimage site. Nowadays, the Wernerkapelle is also considered iconic German Romantic art.
Video of Marktplatz
Caption: The rich historical heritage in Bacharach is definitely visible in the market square: the ‘Marktplatz’. Already in the Middle Ages, Bacharach was an important trading center for transhipment of wines. Many richly decorated half-timbered buildings bear witness to the prosperity of the time and still characterize the face of the town today. The most famous building is the ‘Altes Haus’. It was built in 1368, and it has kept its original style, both inside and outside, throughout the centuries. The old city walls with the iconic ‘Marktturm’ complete the medieval appearance.
Video of Backhaus Lüning Filiale
Caption: German pastries and sweets, they are irresistible! That’s why we had to visit the popular Backhaus Lüning Filiale in Bacharach. When we entered the bakery, we soon discovered all the spots were taken already. But that’s a good sign, isn’t it? So we decided to have some freshly brewed coffee and sweets for takeaway!
Video of Rosenstraße
Caption: This spot in the Rosenstraße truly is a hidden and mysterious gem in Bacharach. Walk through the (very!) narrow street and you will arrive at a small water source. When you look above, you’ll see the text “Julia, wo bleibst du?” which means “Julia, where are you?” As of today, nothing has been written about it. It will definitely make you wonder who Julia was and where she has gone.
