A local guide leads paddlers through Shell Key Preserve's shallow-water, weaving through mangrove tunnels along the way. Dolphins and manatees turn up often enough to keep an eye out for. The route ends with free time on Shell Key Island to shell, swim, or snorkel, and since the water never gets deeper than waist-high and there's no open Gulf paddling, it suits total beginners just as well as seasoned kayakers.
