DeKalb County stands on its own — a thriving community of independent coffee shops, charming bookstores, live music venues, and a food scene that keeps things interesting well beyond the county line. This guide covers the best of it, from Avondale Estates to Decatur and beyond.

See MoreCommon Coffee & Cocktails
I tried the viral sheep latte here! It’s totally worth it because it’s sooo cute and Instagrammable. It also tastes DELICIOUS. This is one of the creamiest matcha lattes I’ve tried. It has a yummy matcha foam on top and the sheep are hand-drawn.
See MoreGGA Dwarf Goat Yoga
Spent the morning doing yoga with the cutest baby goats! I learned that baby goats are called “kids.” The yoga is suitable for all levels and you can play with and hold the goats.
See MoreMy Parents' Basement
This place is so fun to hang out at! It has nostalgic games like PAC-Man and claw machines. You need cash for them but there is an ATM on-site. The food and drinks are also really good!
See MoreThe Book Bird of Avondale Estates
I LOVED this bookstore that I stumbled upon! It’s walking distance from My Parents’ Basement and they have a bar with wine and teas and more to sip on while you browse.
See MoreThe 57th Fighter Group Restaurant
This is a restaurant with a view! You can watch planes taking off or taxiing on the runway from the window by your table. I recommend the beer cheese soup with a large soft pretzel! The short rib is also amazing. They have dancing on select evenings and live musicians plus a large patio.
See MoreStellow Coffee & Floral
This is a new coffee shop in the area! It has a blue matcha latte that’s worth trying.
See MoreOlive + Pine
This cute food hall has options for everyone. You can get teas, lattes, purchase plants, etc. There’s an outdoor space too!

There is so much to offer at Patel Plaza. They have a huge Indian grocery store and plenty of eateries to try Indian snacks and foods.

A local gem! This coffee shop is loved by locals and visitors — don’t miss it!

This concert venue has been a staple in the community for years. It’s cozy, full of creativity, and perfect to grab a beer and soak in the music.

This is a museum that tells the history of Decatur in a courthouse setting. People even get married here — it’s so full of charm and meaning!

The most delicious ice cream spot! They have a walk up window that makes you feel like a kid again and have a large variety of flavors.
