Netherworld Haunted House
Three decades of monsters come back to life at Netherworld, which is celebrating its 30th season with two all-new haunts, Curse of the Collector and Beyond Oblivion: Legacy of Evil. Brave both, then take on one of its escape rooms or wander the monster museum, open select nights through early November.

Stranger Things fans will recognize Stone Mountain Cemetery as Roane Hill, the graveyard where Max reads her heartfelt letter to Billy in Season 4. Its oldest headstones date back to before the Civil War, so it’s a fitting stop for anyone hunting a little Upside Down chill this time of year.

Fall at Stone Mountain Park brings the Pumpkin Festival, with classic storybook characters roaming the grounds, and A Tour of Southern Ghosts, where professional storytellers share family-friendly ghost tales along the lantern-lit paths of the Historic Square.
Keep an eye on your surroundings while you’re out exploring, since some of the woods, pond and train-track scenes in Stranger Things were filmed in the park.

Headstones dating to the early 1800s fill the old section of Decatur Cemetery, the area’s oldest municipal burial ground and a twilight stop on the Decatur Ghost Tour. In late October, costumed marchers gather at its Bell Street entrance to kick off the Haints & Saints Day of the Dead Halloween Parade into downtown Decatur.

Tucked in the basement of Phoebe Hearst Hall at Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven, the Crypt of Civilization is a sealed, tomb-like room that won’t be opened until the year 8113. Stand before its stainless steel door and wonder what’s waiting on the other side, locked away for a civilization thousands of years from now to discover.

Scream 2 turned the Gothic and Victorian halls of Agnes Scott College into much of fictional Windsor College, where Ghostface stalks Sidney Prescott and her friends. Its brick-and-stone campus has drawn dozens of film crews over the years, and those old buildings look especially moody under October skies.

With its Gothic Revival granite halls lining a leafy quad, Oglethorpe University has a moody, old-world look that turns properly spooky on an overcast October day. The campus appears in the Stranger Things series finale, when Dustin runs out of Hearst Hall and across the quad to hug Steve in front of Lupton Hall, and The Vampire Diaries filmed here too. Down in Hearst Hall’s basement sits the sealed Crypt of Civilization, one more piece of mystery on an already eerie campus.
