World's Largest Sweet Tea
Snap a pic in front of Mason, the World’s Largest Sweet Tea, which holds a Guinness World Record and stands proudly near Town Hall as a symbol of Summerville’s sweet history and community pride.
Summerville proudly holds the title of the Birthplace of Sweet Tea, a distinction rooted in both history and hospitality. The story ties back to Dr. Charles Shepard, who established the Pinehurst Tea Plantation here in the late 1800s—the first successful commercial tea farm in the United States. Tea grown at Pinehurst was later used to make one of the earliest recorded sweet tea recipes, forever linking Summerville to this Southern tradition. Today, that legacy is celebrated through the Sweet Tea Trail and the annual Sweet Tea Festival, which draws visitors from near and far.
