Our first stop was a Springfield, Mo classic! The Pizza house has been serving up hand-rolled, thin crust pizza since 1958. We went with a pepperoni and mushroom, and the crust as so light and fresh, so crispy without being heavy. It’s the kind of pizza that fuels your adventure instead of putting you in a carb coma. It is a delicious and nostalgic way to kick off our Missouri road trip.

We were told no trip to Springfield, Mo is complete without a stop at Andy’s frozen custard. This place is a local institution (and now we totally get why). The custard is ultra creamy and rich, but still refreshing. The kids devoured their concretes, while we went for the classic Ozark Turtle. It’s the perfect sweet treat to cool down and soak up the small-town vibes before ending the evening.

Oasis Hotel & Conv. Center, an Ascend Collection Hotel
This hotel truly felt like a tropical escape. The kids raced right to the indoor Atrium and pool where we were greeted with lush greenery, fountains, and an indoor splash pad! Our room had a comfy balcony overlooking the courtyard and a mini fridge we stocked full of snacks. This was a great place to relax and reset every night before the next days adventures.

After a full day of exploring, we decided to wind down with room service from Fire & Ice, and it totally hit the spot. We were all thrilled to have a “fancy dinner in bed”, and we loved not having to leave the cozy comfort of our room. It felt like the best kind of indulgence: delicious food, no dishes, and time to just relax together. Bonus points for the fast delivery and still hot entrees!

Aviary by Lavender Falls Cafe
Breakfast at the Aviary was cozy and inviting. It was exactly the vibe we hoped for. We loved spotting the whimsical bird cages and Edison bulbs. We devoured sweet and savory crepes, and the farmer’s eggs, bacon, and pomme frites were a perfect hearty start to the day. every bite felt thoughtfully crafted and one of the locals told us “this is the best breakfast spot in town”. It was a family favorite!

Smallin Civil War Cave
Venturing into Smallin Civil war cave, we walked about a half mile along a gently sloping and stroller friendly path. We were all fascinated by the cool underground streams, massive 55 ft entrance and fossils. The Guide brought its history to life telling stories how different groups of people used the cave over the centuries. It was a fun mix of adventure, geology, and history.

Lamberts cafe is an unforgettable dining experience. Stepping into this rustic spot felt like joining a joyful southern game every time the staff yelled “roll time!” The kids were smiling ear to ear as they caught the rolls being flung across the room. The portions were massive and hearty and we loaded our plates with the pass around of okra, black eyed peas, and taters. The whole vibe was spirited, loud, and full of laughter. It is the kind of family fun you hope to have on a trip. Definitely come hungry and ready to eat!

After such an amzing meal, we needed to get out and walk around. What better way than visiting the Springfield Conservation Nature Center. This place has 80 acres of trails, creeks, woods, and wildlife, all right in the city's backyard. If your are a parent looking for something free, fun, and full of wonder this is your spot. Inside the nature center, it's like a mini museum made for curious minds with live animals, hands on displays, and our kids loved the birdwatching window.

Exploring the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium was the highlight of our trip to Springfield! This massive, award winning attraction is packed with stunning aquariums, lifelike wildlife exhibits, and hands on experiences that kept the kids (and us) totally amazed. From experiencing a shark feeding to petting the stingrays every turn was jawdropping. It's educational, immersive, and absolutely unforgettable. Perfect for all ages and worth every minute.

Fellows Lake
Kayaking at Fellows Lake was the perfect way to unwind and soak up nature. The water is calm, the views are stunning, and getting out on the lake felt like a breath of fresh air. The marina staff were super helpful with rentals and answered all our questions with a smile. We packed a picnic, paddled until the kids were happily tired, and enjoyed a snack with a lakeside view. Peaceful, scenic, and relaxing, definitely a must do when you're in the area.

Eating at Black Sheep Burgers and Shakes was a total treat! We had the most mouthwatering burger, juicy, bold, and packed with flavor. The kids' menu was a hit with the kids, and the milkshakes? Unreal. Their signature Blackberry Pie and Strawberry Shortcake shakes were dessert dreams come true. Cool vibe, friendly staff, and seriously good food made this one of our favorite burger spots. Dickerson Park Zoo was the perfect sendoff for our trip, fun, relaxed, and full of wonder. The kids lit up feeding the giraffes, and seeing lions, monkeys, and zebras up close was a hit for all of us. The shady paths made it easy to explore, and the little train ride added that extra bit of magic. It's just the right size for families and packed with great photo ops and memories. A laid back, animal filled advetrure to end our stay on a high note!

Visiting the World's Largest Fork was such an unexpected and fun stop! Tucked beside and office building, this 35 foot stainless steel fork made us laugh and snap way too many photos. It's quirky, random, and totally worth the quick detour. The kids thought it was hilarious, and honestly, so did we. Just one of those weird wonderful roadside attractions thak makes a trip exta memorable.
