Sam Houston Jones State Park
Sam Houston Jones State Park made for an ideal introduction to Louisiana birding. The wetlands, moss-covered trees, and peaceful walking trails made this one of my favorite stops of the trip. I spotted woodpeckers, whistling ducks, and so many beautiful little details along the wetland walkway trail.

Ended the first day of the trip with dinner at Luna Bar & Grill downtown. The food, drinks, and downtown Lake Charles atmosphere made it a perfect end to day one.

Day 2

The Bekery
Started Day 2 with a morning stop at The Bekery for coffee and a White Chocolate Lavender NY Roll. I grabbed some lunch for the road too — it's an adorable spot to fuel up before a full day of birding.

Creole Nature Trail All-American Road
The Creole Nature Trail ended up being one of the most memorable parts of the entire trip. Between the marshes, wildlife, stormy skies, and quiet backroads, it felt like seeing a completely different side of Louisiana. Even with the rain rolling in throughout the day, the scenery out here was unreal.

Started the last day at Coffee:30 Cafe with some delicious beignets. Seriously, these were the best beignets I've ever had.

Before making the drive back to Houston, I stopped at Mama Reta's Kitchen for one last Louisiana meal. Such a cozy local spot and the perfect way to wrap up the trip after a weekend full of birding, marsh views, and exploring southwest Louisiana.
