Caption: how to section a GRAPEFRUIT
Picture
Caption: What you need... A grapefruit
A sharp paring or utility knife
A bowl
Picture
Caption: Begin by slicing off the top & bottom of the grapefruit. This will give you a steady work surface.
Picture
Caption: Moving your knife in a back-and-forth "sawing" motion, cut off long strips of grapefruit peel & pith.
Picture
Caption: Follow the contours of the grapefruit & resist the urge to just cut downward.
Picture
Caption: Repeat the back-and-forth cutting strips of peel & pith all the way around the grapefruit.
Picture
Caption: Once all the skin has been removed, go back & clean up any major missed spots. It won't be perfect, but practice does help.
Picture
Caption: Hold the peeled grapefruit in your hand & use the knife to carefully cut on either side of the sections, only cutting to the center the fruit (and not into your hand)
Picture
Caption: Drop the freed sections into
the bowl.
Picture
Caption: Repeat until every grapefruit section has been removed. Squeeze the membranes that remain over the sections so that no juice is lost.
Picture
Caption: The grapefruit sections (also known as "supremes" ) are ready to be eaten, or used as garnish on a dessert or salad. Don't forget to drink the juice!
