Caption: This was late 2013 on Unalaska Island. The boat was being repaired and so I found myself with a few spare days.

Caption: I found them there. They were waiting for me. Instantly I realized I had forgotten to bring a gift. An apple. A carrot. I was ashamed at this misstep. Disappointed in myself but I couldn't go back.

Caption: We spent a few hours together. I took over 700 shots. They tolerated me. Mostly. I walked among them. Up and down the beach. They spread out and came together, trotted away and trotted back.
