Caption: This little island has a history dating back to the ancient Greeks (for whom it was “Pandoteira”, literally meaning “bestower of everything”): it’s the island of Ulysses’ sirens, of the exile of Giulia, daughter of the emperor Augustus, of the Bourbon prison of Santo Stefano, located on a small island offshore. Since ancient times designated as a place of confinement, it hosted some of the most important names of the anti-fascist movement, and it’s where the Manifesto of European Federalism, by Altiero Spinelli, was born.
