Pushed for a figure he says between 15,000 and 50,000 with an average of 30,000 a year - ambitious given last year's figure of 298,000. Despite this Mr Farage says he thinks it's possible to bring it down by mid-way through the next parliament , if there's an EU referendum, the UK votes to leave & UKIP's immigration policy - of introducing an Australian-style points based system - is introduced.

Immigration is a central issue in UKIP's election campaign - although it doesn't appear directly on their pledge card.
