Today was a very easy and short day. Instead of taking the shuttle from town at 12, another girl and I decided to hitch in around 10. We only hiked about 9 miles, though most of the day was very beautiful. I could see Uncompahdre, the shark tooth looking 14er, staring at me in the distance, wondering how anyone could possibly climb that thing. I enjoyed meeting and hiking with someone new today, and look forward to having a “hiker family” to walk with for the rest of the trip. It’s crazy that I only have 6 more nights out on the trail! These next few segments are going to be gorgeous, and honestly I have no fear in anything being too difficult at this point. Cheers to the last 110 miles!

Today I reached the high point on the trail! This time, I could share my celebration cheer with others. Today was a gorgeous day. Almost all above treeline, with fantastic views on the San Juan’s. I am amazed how rugged Colorado is sometimes, with its jagged mountain peaks. I feel like my body is stronger now that I am eating more food. I’m cruising uphill and downhill like it’s not that challenging anymore, hah! Still enjoying being with my trail family, though they decided to push on while I camped behind today. Nonetheless, we will all be meeting in Silverton in one more day anyways. The weather has been fine with the brief afternoon storm, and I’ve seen so many moose! Even two calf’s with their mother. I am feeling like all the suffering from the sections a few days ago are making up for it with fantastic views and good company. Looking forward to another beautiful day in preside. Only 5 more nights in the tent!

Today was probably the most beautiful day on the trail yet. Perfect weather, stunning views, and I felt strong all day. I encountered snow, jagged peaks, waterfalls, avalanche debris, and grassy meadows. I pretty much never stopped except for a few snacks and to take pictures. And I took so many pictures. I am glad the sun came out in the afternoon because the place I remembered as “paradise” was just how I remembered. I’m so glad I pushed through to get to this point on the trail. Only a few more days left, and a lot to reflect on. People always ask me how this time around has been different, and I am not sure I will know honestly until I am back home. Caught up with my friends again which feels good, and have been sleeping well. The starts have been amazing. Only 7 miles till Silverton!
