Caption: Rooftop Beekeepers
N Y C
Caption: In 2005, I began taking pictures of rooftop beekeepers in New York City, when bees were considered a wild animal and keeping hives was illegal. Renegade farming at its best. These are just two of the stories I documented. All images shot on 35 mm film, with a Nikon 6006.
The first set is in Union Square.

Caption: Moving uptown, into the Bronx. At an old church, high above the sounds of children playing and buses passing by, sits a few hives. The beekeeper told me of the different tastes his honey produces each season. Clover honey. Floral honey. Sometimes it has a dandelion flavor. Always changing, as nearby tenants move and carry their fire escape plants with them, leaveing the bees to find what they can around them.
