Caption: We were kicking around ideas for a backpacking trip into the North Cascades, our minds gravitated to warm, comforting soup. We needed it to be high-calorie, but also had to be lightweight. With this in mind, we adapted one of our favorite kitchen recipes to be backpack-friendly.

1 cup instant mashed potato flakes
1/2 cup dry milk
1/2 cup cheese (we use Parmesan)
1/2 cup dehydrated or freeze dried veggies
2 tbs bacon bits
2 tsp dried chives
2 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp sea salt
1 vegetable bouillon cube

Caption: At home, measure out all ingredients and place into a ziplock baggie.
