Picture
Caption: Wrap the yarn around the card lengthways approx. 30 times.
Picture
Caption: Cut along one side and open up the yarn, remove the card.
Picture
Caption: Bend one of the pipe cleaners in half.
Picture
Caption: Insert into the hole of the wooden ball.
Picture
Caption: Place the yarn at the centre point and pull the pipe cleaner back through the hole.
Picture
Picture
Caption: Fold the 2nd pipe cleaner in half.
Picture
Picture
Caption: Wrap around the neck of the fairy, fold the pipe cleaner in half again and twist to create the arms. Twist the body down halfway and bend the bottom of each side forward to create the feet.
Picture
Caption: Wrap the yarn, starting at the neck down the body, up and down each leg, and across the arms, until the pipe cleaners are completely covered. Snip the yarn and glue in place.
Picture
Picture
Caption: Holding the hair off the head paint the wooden ball with the white gouache paint. Paint with two coats and wait till dry.
Picture
Caption: Wrap a small piece of the lace across one of the shoulders and top of the body. Secure with a small piece of glue at the back of the body. Repeat for the 2nd piece of lace.
Picture
Picture
Caption: Taking the 3 skeleton leaves and 3 pieces of cotton, glue in place around the waist of the fairy, alternating leaf and material as you work around the body.
Picture
Caption: Finish by placing a piece of lace around the waist and glue in place, again at the back of the fairy.
Picture
Caption: Turn the fairy over and glue the feather wings in place.
Picture
Caption: Place daubs of glue on the back of the head and position the hair down over the head.
Picture
Caption: Glue the small ribbon roses along the front of the fairy’s hairline.
Picture
Picture
Caption: Using the smaller brush, paint in 2 dots for the eyes.
Picture
Caption: Leave to dry. The fairy is now completed. If you would like to hang her off a Christmas tree, tie two pieces of the hair together to create a loop.
Following the same structure, different fairies can be made by altering the yarn and materials used.
