Caption: When I was 22, I went to work on an ordinary day, flipped a coin and decided I was moving to New Zealand.
I had been working for a year with the education department after finishing my psychology degree. I spent my days with beautiful, troubled children. It was hard and sad. I decided that I needed to make the most of every day.
Caption: I was the first member of my family to have a passport, I had never been to an airport, I didn't know a soul in New Zealand, or anything about the country.
I packed my backpack and left Australia, on my own, bound for a destination mentioned in passing to me by a stranger.
I had never been more sure of any decision I had ever made and I have never been more sure of any decision since.
