Picture
Caption: Classic hikes abound in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge. But while popular trails draw the crowds on sunny weekends, the "lost" trails -- unofficial, unmaintained, but not necessarily underused -- lead to some of the Gorge's best views. Of these, Munra Point is arguably the most spectacular: a three-armed knife-edge summit overlooking Bonneville Dam.

Caption: MUNRA POINT From I-84 Eastbound, take exit 40 for Bonneville Dam and park at the Wahclella Falls Trailhead. Cross the old Columbia River Highway bridge to the north of the parking lot, and look for the signed start of Trail 400. After a climb and switchback, the trail parallels the highway for about a mile until a faint trail exits left into the woods. Follow, up steep switchbacks, occasional rock scrambles and a chimney with a hardline to the treeline and the summit.
