Caption: KASMARAN is a small home based project. As someone who grew up in family with a big fond of textile I starting to love textile since early age, watching my parent collecting traditional textile from around Indonesia and visiting some traditional textile artisan.
Along the way, I worked for NGO project, assisting Batik artisan to switch from chemical dyes to natural dyes. It was really fun project to do. I explore more about batik and
dyeing technique.

First time I know about this technique was when I do a research while I worked with the NGO. It really got me so I start to dig deeper and try to do some experiments at home. While the dyeing technique is similar with Batik making, I learn from the Batik artisan.

I personally enjoy this process as a meditation time for me to do in between my job. Each bind will create a different pattern. Even with the same way of technique, it won't have the same exact pattern. In a way, it really creates a wabi sabi feeling. The beauty of imperfection.

Picture
Caption: Each of KASMARAN products are personally hand dyed. That mean I start the process with designing what I want, cutting the fabric, bind or folding it then hand dyed it in a color vat.
The process took up to an hour and more. Sometimes I soak the fabric in the dye vat for the whole night to get the result I want. As for the whole end product it took me 4-7 days of making.

OF WABI SABI

This is why I always called KASMARAN as a #slowmade creation, because not only time consume but you also need to put some thoughts (and love!) in every piece you make.
(well, that's what you do if you love what you do right?)

Caption: KASMARAN KASMARAN is a medium where I can turn my love of textile and its technique into a handmade products. I'm really still exploring and learning, as I found shibori and textiles art in general is such a big (fun) world
to explore.
In keeping with the spirit of creating, many of the items I create are with limited availability or made to order. This allows me to consistently create new, exclusive items and to keep exploring :)
