Caption: Three-Pete I'm not to sure if you've ever been around gold leaf before, it's pretty crazy. So, when a received a call from Pete Gaman of KandyVan to shoot him redoing the storefront window for Pete's Barbershop in Chicago, I automatically became excited. Not to mention, everyone I would be working with (myself included) would be named Pete.

Caption: Pete's House Nothing in Pete's house is new and all of it is awesome. His entertainment center is a huge reclaimed medicine cabinet from a psych ward and he restores vintage fridges, giving them hot rod paint jobs? Yup.

Caption: Pete's Barbershop Our main location was Pete's Barbershop in Chicago. It's a shame my hair fell out years ago because this place is rad. It feels more like a mechanic's shop then a barbershop. Lots of shit talking and beer drinking all while you're surrounded by pinup girls and straight razors.

Caption: We started early the next day. I think the high was 20 degrees f. At least that meant steaming manholes and a crisp sky. This ended up being my favorite shot. Oh, the reason the the sewer is steaming...raw sewage.

Caption: The Process It's way more involved then you think. Even crazier, you have to do everything backwards. Stencil the outside of the window, lay the gold fill first and the outline is the last thing to go on. After all of that, then you strip the excess leaf from the window. I think that's how it went?
