Caption: These are my friends. These faces are just some of the people who let me into their homes in 2008 when I was a stranger and who now treat me like family, like a sister, a daughter, a cousin, an auntie, a teacher, and a student. They fed me, they housed me, they protected me, and they taught me about their way of life. They told me of their country's failures and glories. They confided in me secrets about themselves, their fears, their dreams. They made me feel safe and completely loved. Most of all they made me laugh, live and love each day like it is my last. They are Solomon Islanders. They are Malaitan.
