Valkenburg

Valkenburg aan de Geul is a town in the south of Limburg. The beautiful town has been attracting tourists for over decades because of the caves with paintings that date back to the Roman times and castle Valkenburg.

The buildings in the town are made of marl.

These ruins are all that's left of Valkenburg castle. The history of the castle dates back to the 11th century. It was the only hilltop castle in the Netherlands and it has beautiful panoramic views of the town below.

You can't zoom in here, but the house on the cover photo has a hole in the corner caused by a grenade in WW II. In the hole you can find a Maria statue.
