Guild House Of The Free Skippers

The guild of the Free Skippers bought this house in 1530. They changed the wooden facade into a stunning stone facade with plenty of carvings. In 1912 it went through a renovation for the World Expo in Ghent in 1913. In 2015, the Port of Ghent bought the house for €1.4M and renovated it for €4M Now the house is for rent for all kinds of events. READ MORE

Though a substantial part of the renovation was subsidised by the community, the building is rarely open for the public. With Open Monumentendag, one day per year, there is a chance to go in. Our guide was the supervisor in charge of the renovation.
