JULY 2019

July 2019 Island freak discovers ‘new’ island.

Ten small villages with charming white houses and colored schutters and doors.

Hollyhocks everywhere!

Sandy beaches with a big difference between high and low tide.

Saltfields connecting the different parts of the island.

Yummy oysters.

Beautiful ports.

Pretty landmarks.

... and the same number of sunshine hours as in the South of France.

* This is Île de Ré, also called l’Île Blanche! *

A French island in the Atlantic ocean. Connected to La Rochelle on the mainland with this bridge.

[ La Rochelle ]

Avoid busy month August and easy living is guaranteed on Ré! Drink an espresso in the morning at a local bar (we loved La Tour du Sénéchal), cycle to the market for your daily groceries, look for beautiful stones on the beach, eat a crêpe, ride the waves or learn to sail.

My must-see/ must-shoot highlights:

Chateliers Abbey

The port of Saint-Marie

The beaches near Portes-en-Ré and Flotte (La Cible)

What are you doing granny? ;0)

The streets of Ars, La Flotte, Saint-Martin and La Couarde.

The churchtower of Ars

The staircase, the view and the adjacent beach of The lighthouse of Whales.

I can still hear the crickets, smell the salty air, taste the oysters and feel the tickling of the hay. Au revoir Ré. Nous nous rencontrerons à nouveau!
