out of my element

For 27 years I actively avoided NYC as I felt that the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps would be too much for my Montana pace. Then I started dating a woman who lives in NYC and I had to come and see for myself how an outdoor photographer would fare with being in the city for three weeks.

Over the course of three weeks I walked over 130 miles around NYC, took in a play on Broadway, went to a Rangers game, taste tested iconic NYC pizza, watched countless sunsets, and attempted to integrate into daily life in the city to get a feel for life there. I left my camera home most days, but here are some of my favorite photos from the few days I did shoot.

In the end, I surprisingly loved my time in New York. It has a pull unlike any city I’ve ever spent time in. And while I love my life in simple Montana, my time in New York gave me an incredible appreciation for the melting pot American spirit that creates NYC.
