TUNISIA THE FIRST PIPER
A CELTIC MUSICAL ADVENTURE #epiXtrip
In 2014 I kicked off an adventure that would change my life forever.
A WORLD RECORD
I decided I wanted to be the first person to play the bagpipes in every country on Earth so I quit my job and booked a flight to Tunisia!
I spent 2 weeks in this North African country having some of the most amusing & heart warming experiences I’ve ever had.
I rented a car and every day, without fail, I would be stopped by the police. Super intimidating, especially when you don’t speak Arabic, French or Tunisian Arabic.
Fortunately, I always had the bagpipes to hand, which got me out of every sticky situation! As it turns out, bagpipes are the national instrument of Tunisia...
...but they look a little different to your usual set of pipes!
I played in every souk (market) I could find, I performed in ancient Roman ruins, and I even played for a Tunisian football club; however, ...
...piping in the Sahara desert was the real game changer because it made me realise one incredibly important thing...
...wind, sand and skirts don’t make a good mix!
