My husband and I recently travelled to the Greek island of Andros...
Welcome to Andros...
Andros is a Cycladic island. The Cyclades are famous for their beaches, dramatic landscapes, and blue and white buildings. We love the Cyclades and have travelled to over seven islands in this group!
is a two hour ferry ride from the Greek mainland. It’s a popular weekend destination for Athenians.
include the ancient city of Andros Town.
Sights on the island
In Andros Town, we climbed across a bridge to see...
....views of the town from inside the ruins of an old Venetian castle....
And a fantastical lighthouse perched on a rocky outcropping!
Atlas Obscura, which collects the world’s “hidden wonders,” says that natural erosion created the lighthouse’s base.
We also visited several beautiful beaches...
The water is cold but crystal clear and very refreshing!
When it wasn’t too hot, we walked on the island’s network of well-maintained hiking trails.
The interior of the island is more lush and green than the coastal regions. We saw several springs and streams.
This sheep surprised us by popping out of the window of an old stone house to say hello!
To get to Andros, take a ferry from the port of Rafina. We used Golden Star Ferries. The site Andros Routes provides detailed guides to the hiking paths around the island. Bon voyage!
