From Auckland to Queenstown in 30 days by motorhome seemed to be quite enough time to understand what New Zealand was all about; but the views, the majestic landscapes and the friendly people made one lifetime seem too short to explore the whole country. We drove to all different kinds of places with the goal of exploring as much as possible. Kaikoura with it’s rich marine life, the huge and wonderful Milford Sound and the strange Hobbiton was all some of the places we visited on this fantasic roadtrip.

Shakespear Regional Park is a place north from Auckland and it’s home to lots of sheep and some wonderful green hills.
This fantastic cave on a beach on the eastern side of New Zealand is only reachable by boat or a short hike. Not only is the cave amazing but the island views from the beach is absolutly stunning.
Anywhere you go in New Zealand you’ll encounter hundreds of sheep walking on the soft green hills.

This small town was built for the sake of filming the ”Hobbit” triology but was then kept so that the people interested in the movie could come and watch the real location. It was initially planned to get deconstructed but the farmer that owns the farm where it’s located came up with the idéa of making it accecible to anyone.

Lord of the Rings
This place called ”Pinnacles” was also a filming location for the ”Lord of the Rings” triology. It’s only reachable by a 2h long uphill hike. While doing a roadtrip in New Zealand there’s a lot of ”Lord of the Rings” filming locations to visit because the movies was mainly filmed in New Zealand.

This location is a must visit while in New Zealand and is arguably one of the country’s most wonderful places. It’s a calm, turquise colored lake with mountains as backdrop but also a dark sky reserve which means that this place’s nightsky is one of the darkest in the world. At night you can see the whole galaxy in the sky which I had never seen before at that moment.

Kaikoura, a small city on the eastern side of the southern island is the perfect place to watch whales, dolphins, seals and orcas in New Zealand. We did a 2h whale watching tour after lunch and got to see two whales, more than ten orcas and even more dolphins. It was an amazing experience.

This lake is located on the southern part of the southern island and is the most reflective lake that I’ve ever seen
