Taking the Scenic Route on the Hurtigruten Finnmarken.

Journey to the Lofoten Islands

When we planned this Scandinavian adventure, we knew we wanted to end up in the Lofoten Islands. But we also wanted to make sure we took the most scenic route possible.

Step 1 was catching the train from Abisko to Narvik.

After arriving in Narvik, most people will rent a car and drive straight to Lofoten, roughly a 3 hour drive. Instead, we scheduled a 1-night coastal cruise with Hurtigruten, departing from Tromsø. So we hopped in the rental, and started the 4-hour drive north to Tromsø.

Upon entering Tromsø, we still had about 5 hours before our ship would be available to board. We spent that time above the city, by taking the Fjellheisen cable car.

The next day was filled with amazing views of Norway’s legendary west coast aboard the Hurtigruten Finnmarken.

The low sun made photography an absolute joy.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day on the ship. Our experience with Hurtigruten exceeded all of our expectations.
