Weekend in Samosir Island, North Sumatera, Indonesia
Samosir Island is a large volcanic island in Lake Toba, located in the north of the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. The lake and island were formed after the eruption of a supervolcano some 75,000 years ago. Samosir Island is the largest island within an island, and the fifth largest lake island in the world.
There are two options to go to Samosir Island, which are with boat crossing the lake or car/motorcycle through a bridge in Pangururan area. If you want take a boat, you can go to Pelabuhan Ajibata (the nearest port to tourist area in Samosir). There are two alternative in there, boat for vehicles (ferry) or boat for people. The price for ferry is around 10 USD per car. In other hand, the price of boat for people is less than 1 USD per person.

After arrived in Samosir, you can take the three wheeler vehicle, named Betor, to go to your next destination.
Or you can rent a bike. There are a lot of bike rent in Samosir, specially in Tuktuk area, the tourist center area in Samosir.

You can go to Huta Bolon Simanindo Museum and see traditional dance of Batak Toba.
Where do I buy some souvenirs?
Pasar Tomok is the best place to buy some souvenirs. You can explore some alleys along the main road in Pasar Tomok. Remember to bargain the price!
Where do I stay in Samosir?
Toba Village Inn can be your choice. They have a good view, full facilities, and affordable price (around 40 USD per night per room, 1 room 2 person)
If you plan to spend more than 2 days in Samosir Island, Samosir have a lot of places for you. Do not forget to buy some breads at Roti Samuel and have a lunch in Sekapur Sirih. Samosir also good for you who need a peaceful place for your free time.
